Close cooperation of community.

This was the time that I visited poor households in Xa Phien commune after a night of the heavy rain, we saw an impressive sight of union, responsibility and problems’ share in community.

Muddy roads or eroded ones block travel in the villages here have been improved significantly from a partnership among citizens, government and funders (as example Ánh Dương Centre). In addition, some people, who live along these roads, have proactively contributed their money to making at some hamlets.

The dangerous monkey bridges

Crossing a river is difficult and unsafe on the monkey bridge. The youngest kids can’t go to school, the risk of falling is too high. Too many drownings have happened. And taking boats is as unsafe as using the bamboo bridge. The canals are invaded by water hyacinth and it of course takes hours to reach the destination.

New cement bridges and roads

Long Mỹ district and Phụng Hiệp district are the most remote areas with the dense network of monkey bridges and rural cart-road so that people have been facing a lot of difficulty. Anh Duong supports buiding materials to build cement bridges and roads which improve obstacle of transport circumstance in here.

Rivers and canals

The Mekong delta has as many rivers as it does paddies. This particularity makes any move difficult. During the heavy rainy season, the roads are muddy and impractical. Traditionally the population was using boats but it became expensive due to the cost of gasoline, as well as too long and unsafe.

A significant change

The local support activity in building ciment brigdes and roads is one of the activites that brings much practical benefits to the local people. The Anh Duong community development and support center has supported 121km of rural roads and 134 bridges in the local areas up till now.
